For more than a century, the members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated themselves to historical preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotic endeavor. These goals are as relevant in today’s society as they were when the organization was founded in 1890.

Most of DAR’s volunteer work is accomplished by the grassroots efforts of chapters on the local level, which focus on the mission areas of DAR by encouraging members to become involved in these initiatives in their local communities.  Learn what the Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, does to promote Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.

The Arc Nature Coast

The Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, is making a difference in our community by supporting The Arc Nature Coast, located at 6495 Mariner Boulevard.  Through our donations, we are helping local adult citizens who are developmentally disabled.  The organization has requested that we donate cash to help pay for field trips for those unable to afford to go otherwise and to donate art supplies (if you’d like a list, please Contact Us), and gift cards.

Thank you for helping with this very worthy cause!!

Pop Tops for Ronald McDonald House

Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, is a sponsor of Fort Brooke Society C.A.R. (Children of the American Revolution). As such, the members collect pop tabs that Fort Brooke Society donates to the Ronald McDonald House in Tampa.

K9 Partners for Patriots

K9 Partners for Patriots is a non-profit dedicated to preventing veteran suicide and fostering hope for those battling PTSD, TBI, and MST. Through the unique bond formed while training their service dogs, veterans are guided from self-doubt to renewed confidence, promoting mental wellness through in-house counseling and reconnection in a supportive community. They offer a 6-month service dog training program, led by certified instructors, that guides veterans in turning these rescue dogs into their personal service animals, paving the way for independence and emotional well-being.

Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, is helping by donations (cash and check), gas gift cards to help cover transportation costs, along with donating items including KONG toys, dog seat belts, training treats, and water bowls. For more information, feel free to Contact Us.

Literacy Support

The Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, collects new and gently used books from our members to be donated to Westside Elementary School, Grades Pre-K – 5, in Spring Hill to be placed in their Little Free Library. A Little Free Library is a book-sharing box where the students can take a book or share a book. On average, Winding Waters chapter donates 300 books per chapter year, October through May, to Westside Elementary School.

This year, we are increasing our outreach by placing books in other Little Free Libraries in Hernando and Pasco Counties. There is a website that has a map to search for the Little Free Libraries in those counties.

Stamps for the Wounded

Stamps for the Wounded (SFTW) was founded in 1942 to provide comfort and stimulating activity for U.S. veterans through stamp collecting. Collected stamps, covers, supplies, and literature are sent to any veteran, by request, so they can begin or continue collecting stamps. Stamp collecting is not only physically challenging, but also very stimulating.

Our chapter collects canceled postage stamps that are then sent to SFTW for them to distribute. Donated stamps are generally mailed in January and June. Currently, SFTW is collecting all canceled stamps, but they are requesting no “Forever” stamps be donated.

Some veterans use stamps to assist them with hand/eye coordination therapy. Stamp collecting can also provide comfort, meaningful activity, and social connections.

Cards for Haley Veterans’ Hospital

Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, has been donating all occasions cards to give to the veterans who are in the hospital. The staff at Haley likes to make sure every patient who is admitted receives a Birthday, Christmas, and Thanksgiving card.

If you would like to help, they are asking for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Birthday cards, along with blank note cards.
