Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR
Welcome to the Winding Waters Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR). We are located in Spring Hill, Florida, on the Gulf coast in beautiful Hernando County. Our chapter is named for one of Florida’s oldest natural attractions, “Weeki Wachee Springs.” Not familiar with Weeki Wachee Springs? Think mermaids and manatees, along with crystal clear water. The spring is so deep that the bottom has never been found. Each day, more than 117 million gallons of clear, fresh, 74-degree water bubbles up out of subterranean caverns.
About Us
The Winding Waters Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in 1980. We are privileged to have 2 of our organizing members still on the roll call. We service Hernando County, and we currently have more than 80 members.
We sponsor the annual DAR Good Citizens Award and History Essay contests, along with supporting the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) programs at Hernando, Central, and F.W. Springstead High Schools. Our members dedicate many hours to community service.
Activities/Meetings
The chapter meets October through May. Meetings include a full-service luncheon. We regularly have guest speakers discussing various pertinent topics. Afterwards, members may choose to gather in the lobby to catch up.
The chapter has several projects and activities in which we are involved. These include marching in the Brooksville Annual Veterans Day Parade and participating in Wreaths Across America every December.
